    Artist in Residence

Based in the Paintbox art studio in the Tricycle, the Artist in Residence works with the education department to deliver the arts education programme and has time to develop her own personal practice.

Natalie Ryde is the current Artist in Residence. Natalie works across a range of disciplines including large scale printmaking, drawing and painting, sculpture and jewellery.  Originally from Scotland and trained at Edinburgh College of Art, Natalie now lives and works in London.  www.natalieryde.com

Recent work explores aspects of the biological and botanical and weaves them into a deeply personal narrative examining memory, place and the uncontrollable forces of nature. Within the work organic motifs exist in a state of tension with the exterior and human worlds, adopting a fluid symbolism that enables the viewer to impose their own personal readings of form and dialogue between these opposing worlds. Human organs are alluded to through ambiguous shapes whilst the psyche is referenced through the notion of the coda of a book or container, sealable objects that can be shut to keep the outside world at bay. These objects speak of retaining a sense home and the universality of human experience.

The principle art projects taught by the Artist in Residence are; the Young Artists Groups, after school classes for talented young people in Brent, and Minding the Gap, groups of newly arrived children who are not yet placed in mainstream education.
