Shared Experience return to the Tricycle following the universal acclaim for their sellout production of Anna Karenina and Jane Eyre.  With a world-class reputation for powerful, visually stunning productions, they bring Helen Edmundson’s astonishing, award-winning play to life.
1652.  Cromwell threatens to eradicate the Irish.  An English gentleman has planted a garden in the Kildare forest.  Deeply in love with a clever, spirited Irish woman, he hopes to keep the outside world at bay.  When their first child is born he begins to understand the cost of his devotion.
This huge, passionate, heartbreaking play tells of both a vast sweep of history and and the fragility of love.
“For sheer palpitating passion its hard to beat Shared Experience.” Evening Standard
“Edmundson’s writing is passionate, poetic, muscular… The result is gripping.” Sunday Times
“Theatre doesn’t come much more exciting than this.” The Daily Telegraph
