Playboy of the West Indies

The Tricycle Theatre and the Nottingham Playhouse Theatre Company present
PLAYBOY OF THE WEST INDIES
by Mustapha Matura

“as sweet and luscious as a ripe mango… this riotous and generous show is almost as welcome as a holiday in the Caribbean, and the perfect choice for those seeking a festive alternative to panto” Daily Telegraph

“exuberant energy, and the rum-fuelled warmth of this revival provides the perfect antidote to bleak winter evenings… a uniformly excellent company… highly recommended.” Evening Standard
“On its third outing, the show remains as lively, ebullient and funny as ever” The Guardian
“Fresh and funny” The Times

“A brilliant idea… worth going out of your way to see” Financial Times
It doesn’t take much to become a hero in the sleepy village of Mayaro, Trinidad.

So when a stranger runs into Peggy’s rum shop announcing he has killed his father, he instantly becomes the envy of all the men and the desire of all the women.

Synge’s classic Playboy of the Western World, is transferred to Trinidad, with hilarious consequences.

Playboy of the West Indies received its world premiere at the Tricycle in 1984. It has subsequently received more than twenty productions worldwide. It returned to the Tricycle in 1994 with great success, and has been televised for the BBC. This is its 20th anniversary production
