Due to the success of A Separation at our International Film Season, and of course the film’s Oscar success, we are delighted to be bringing back the film for two screenings only. Make sure you don’t miss the chance to see this incredible, intelligent drama that explores the fractures and tensions at the heart of Iranian society through the story of one family.
When his wife leaves him, Nader hires a young woman to take care of his suffering father. But he doesn’t know his new maid is not only pregnant, but also working without her unstable husband’s permission. Soon, Nader finds himself entangled in a web of lies, manipulation and public confrontations.
A Separation is the first-ever Iranian film to be awarded an Oscar and also the Golden Bear Award at the prestigious Berlin Film Festival (2011). The film boasts a range of superb performances from the ensemble cast who collectively received Silver Bear Awards for both Best Actor and Best Actress at the Berlinale.
‘Sophisticated, superbly acted and wholly gripping portrait of modern Iran.’
‘This powerful, complex Iranian drama centres on a conflict that cuts across boundaries of gender and class.’
