Classical Music Series 2012

Artistic Director: Tamsin Waley-Cohen
with the Honeymead Ensemble

Following the huge success of the inaugural Sunday Music Series featuring the Honeymead Ensemble, we are delighted to present a second chamber music series continuing through to Summer 2012.

‘Warm, focused, joyous… a marvellous chamber series’ The Sunday Times

I am absolutely delighted that the Sunday Chamber Music concerts at the Tricycle will be continuing. It has been an inspirational few months and I look forward immensely to sharing and experiencing more chamber music in this unique and exhilarating venue.
Tamsin Waley-Cohen

Sunday 22 January, 5pm
The New World

Welcoming in the New Year the Honeymead Ensemble perform three great quartets evoking the expanse and possibility of the New World. Dvořák’s well-loved American Quartet is partnered with Copland’s Pieces for String Quartet and Glass’s 2nd Quartet Company.

Monday 5 March, 8pm
Metamorphosen
Part of The Tricycle Goes Nuclear Season

Shostakovich’s Quartet No. 8 dedicated to “the victims of fascism and war” is coupled with Strauss’s masterpiece Metamorphosen, a work of unparalleled richness and power, written during the last months of the Second World War.

Sunday 15 April, 7pm
The Romantic Heritage

Schubert’s String Trio in B flat Major and Beethoven’s String Trio E flat, two early works by composers known for their sparkle, energy and charm; are followed by the lesser known, but gorgeously romantic, String Trio No. 2 by Max Reger.

PRODUCTION

The Honeymead Ensemble

The Honeymead Ensemble was created in 2007 by Tamsin Waley-Cohen, its artistic director.  It brings together a group of young professional musicians to live and work together for a week of intense musical participation and preparation.  They are based for the week at Honeymead, Tamsin's family's farm, in the centre of Exmoor.
