Artist in Residence
The Artist-in-Residence spends a year at the Tricycle developing their own creative practice, leading workshops with young people and is involved in other Tricycle projects throughout the year. Based in the Paintbox studio, the artist has the opportunity to use the large, purpose built space to work towards their solo exhibition in the Tricycle Gallery.
Regular classes in contact with the Artist-in-Residence include the Young Artist Group made up of around 15 talented teenagers who live or go to school in Brent and The Brent Project, young people recently arrived in the borough from countries around the world, many of whom have refugee status.
Natalie Ryde is the current Artist-in-Residence. Natalie trained at Edinburgh College of Art graduating with 1st Class Honours Jewellery in 2004. Not your average jeweller, she has continued to diversify and experiment working in a range of media including printmaking, painting and various 3-D materials. Responding to the restrictions and advantages of different environments, Natalie enjoys exploiting the role of resident to inform new work. Previously, Natalie completed residencies in Aberdeen and is involved in educational projects with Tate Britain and the V&A.
Natalie’s first solo show A Cough to Break the Silence opened at the Tricycle Gallery on Monday 12th January 2009.
The Tricycle would like to thank the David Cohen and the John S. Cohen Foundations for sponsoring the Artist-in-Residence in 2008.
