A Word From The Wings…

Sound Designer Tom Lishman blogs from press day at The Shakespeare, Washington:

I’m writing this in the wings during part two of our first trilogy day (and press day) in Washington. It’s been a REALLY hard week for everyone adapting the show for slightly larger theatres, after the intimacy of the Tricycle. We’re all getting used to the extra size, though, and it’s working well.

The cast are obviously wider awake than I am, as they are giving a fabulous performance today. ‘Bugles’ in particular was possibly the best I’ve seen it.

The sound department here at the Shakespeare Theatre are both very experienced and very nice, so I feel extremely well looked after! Nothing has been too much trouble for them. And working in such a well-equipped building has made my life, and I think those of all our technical staff, a lot easier.

It’s almost all over for me – I fly home tomorrow leaving all things sound in the capable hands of Ed Borgnis, and go straight into rehearsals for the Tricycle’s production of Broken Glass. I’m back with the tour for three weeks in New York at the end of the year. Can’t wait!
