Capital Bid Success!

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2013 by Tricycle

We are delighted to announce we have been successful in the first stage of our application for the Arts Council’s Capital Funding Programme.  Over £3 million has been pledged to the Tricycle, on approval of the second part of the application, enabling ambitious plans to refocus the work of the Tricycle Theatre based on building improvements, a smaller carbon footprint and renewed engagement with the communities served by the venue.

Our Artistic Director Indhu Rubasingham said:

“I’m delighted that our application for a Capital Bid to the Arts Council was successful. This is the next stage in what has already proved to be a thrilling first year in my role as Artistic Director of the Tricycle.

Community is a vital word for me.  The local community, the artistic community, the international community and the Tricycle community.  I want these communities to interact in, and engage with the building and its output.  It is for this reason that I’m so excited that with this funding, we can address the building itself – I am sure that it will ensure a sustainable future for us.

Our plan opens the way to attract and engage a larger and more diverse public in outstanding artistic and education experiences.  We will reduce our carbon footprint. We will refocus the theatre as a local facility at the heart of global exchange and debate – something at the heart of my mission, theatre programming and vision for the Tricycle’s future.

We will soon be launching a Capital campaign to raise the considerable additional funds needed to realise this ambitious plan.
